What is Beltane?

Beltane honors the day that sits squarely in the middle of the spring equinox and the summer solstice. It’s a celebration of the exuberance of spring. Rooted in a rich history from the British Isles, Beltane is a holiday that has so much meaning and purpose, especially now. It’s soaked in fertility and welcoming Mother Nature out of slumber. “We’re so happy to see you,” we exclaim as we notice the trees start to bud and the birds’ peaceful melodies.

This year Beltane falls on the eve of Thursday, April 30, into the richness of Friday, May 1. We have two ways of viewing the world right now: with fear or with faith. I’ve always said that the magic is in the unknown. Right now Mother Earth is quiet. She’s getting some much needed time to heal. We are blessed with this extra time with ourselves to recommit to our innermost desires and values. How do you want to show up in the world? Take this time to reconnect with your true purpose. As you welcome Mother Nature, welcome the person you were always meant to be.

Ritual has been so powerful for me along my journey. It’s the very reason that Magic Fairy Candles was created. I find solace in taking quiet moments to speak to the Creative Intelligence that binds us all. Beltane has so many beautiful rituals and I captured some of my favorites in our new Beltane Ritual Box. Enclosed you’ll find all types of delicious goodies. Ring your brass bell and dance naked in your living room. Hold the deep red carnelian in your palm and meditate on its metaphysical properties: vitality and courage. Turn off the lights and let your gaze be mesmerized by the flicker of your Begin Anew candle. Breath in the uplifting aroma of lemongrass and treat yourself to a luxurious bath soak.

Most important, speak softly and kindly to yourself. Transformation is an energetic time when our resources are depleted. As we mourn the world we once knew and make space for the magical unknown, tell yourself these truths:

Change is its own paradox persistent, yet unfixed. The newly discovered wish is born of both change and its persistence.

Permit me a thrilling ease as change flows through my open hands, my open heart to transform and unfurl my soul.

Happy Beltane! I love you.
