John Fraser was a Scotsman and botanist who found himself traversing the southern Appalachian Mountains in the 1700’s where he so named the Fraser Fir species, among other trees. But it took a bit longer for a German named Charles Minnegerode to introduce the custom of the decorated Christmas tree in Williamsburg, Virginia homes in 1842. His tree was described as being splendidly decorated with strings of popcorn, nuts, and lighted candles. With its crisply sweet, woody, and fragrant evergreen aroma, it’s no wonder the Fraser Fir tree grew to represent the traditional scent of the holiday season.
