“The self forms at the edge of desire.” So wrote the poet Anne Carson. Where exactly is that edge? Is it the same for everyone? And don’t we all just want to lose our “selves” to desire and love?

These are all eager questions. Asking them is a good thing. If it weren’t for the desire to taste, to create, to explore, to open our heart, nothing would come of our eagerness. Desire is born within us all. It doesn’t come from outside of us. And so it serves a purpose.

We become who we are as we become more aware of our own desires. I think this hits a little bit upon what Anne is writing about. And it is at the center of what leads me from one creation to the next. Right now, I am in the middle of creating something new and feel that delicious eagerness to get on with it. It’s exciting! And I can’t wait to share it with you.

Until it’s fully formed, I’d like you to have a unique affirmation from The Unfolding—a very special line of products. It was with this same exciting desire that I created each one. Please enjoy the affirmation for Permission. I hope it opens a path into your own desire, and to your self.

All my love, always.

My life requires no consent.
To breathe I inhale.
To exist I walk out
into the day.
Every allowance is
already bestowed.
May I claim this life
as mine and live it.
Granting my own heart
every single permission.
